The Sokoto State Goverment has organized a special prayer session aimed at promoting peace, unity and harmonious coexistence among residents of the state.

The prayer gathering, which took place in Sokoto metropolis on Friday, brought together Islamic scholars, Christian clerics, traditional rulers, community leaders, government officials and residents from across the state. The event was held as part of ongoing efforts by the state government to strengthen social cohesion and foster mutual understanding among people of different backgrounds.

Speaking at the session, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described peace as the foundation of development, stressing that no society can make meaningful progress without unity and collective commitment to harmony. He said the government considered prayers essential in complementing security measures and policies already being implemented to safeguard lives and property.

The governor noted that Sokoto State has a long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance, adding that the administration remains determined to preserve these values. He urged citizens to continue supporting government initiatives, respect one another and shun actions capable of threatening peace.

Islamic clerics at the event offered special prayers for sustained peace, protection of lives and property, and wisdom for leaders at all levels. Christian leaders also prayed for unity, stability and divine guidance for the state and the nation at large, emphasizing the need for love, tolerance and cooperation among citizens.

Traditional rulers and community leaders used the occasion to call on residents, especially youths, to resist violence, drug abuse and other social vices, urging them to become ambassadors of peace in their respective communities.

The prayer session ended with a renewed call for collective responsibility, as participants expressed optimism that sustained unity and spiritual commitment would further strengthen peace and development in Sokoto State.
