Nigeria, U.S. Deepen Security Alliance at Abuja Counterterrorism Talks

This commitment was reiterated as the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, hosted a high-level United States delegation led by the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, for a strategic security dialogue at the National Counterterrorism Centre in Abuja.

The meeting, which brought together key actors in Nigeria’s security and foreign policy architecture, was attended by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, the Ministers of Defence and Interior, Service Chiefs, and heads of the intelligence community. Among those present were the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Directors-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), as well as the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

Discussions at the parley focused on strengthening joint efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency, protecting vulnerable communities, and deepening intelligence sharing and operational cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

Both sides underscored the importance of sustained partnership in addressing evolving security threats, while reaffirming their commitment to enhanced collaboration aimed at promoting peace, stability, and national resilience.
