A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has granted bail in the sum of ₦20 million to Malam Ibrahim Isa Makwarari following his arraignment over alleged possession of forged land documents.

Malam Ibrahim Isa Makwarari is accused of being in possession of two land documents suspected to be fake, bearing the names of Alƙasim Usman Baba and Audu Danyaro Fagge.

Court records revealed that on October 7, 2025, the Magistrate Court ordered the police to investigate a complaint filed by the Kano State Ministry of Lands concerning a parcel of land located along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kano.

During the course of the investigation, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of the two disputed land documents, which investigators claimed were forged. He was said to have failed to provide a satisfactory explanation to security operatives regarding the authenticity of the documents.

Upon reading the charge to him in court, Malam Ibrahim Isa Makwarari pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Barrister A. T. Shehu, applied for bail, assuring the court that credible sureties would be provided to guarantee his client’s appearance.

However, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Nura A. Salisu, opposed the bail application, arguing that the defendant had been evading police invitations since October last year and was only apprehended after a court order was issued. He urged the court to impose strict bail conditions should bail be granted.

In its ruling, the court admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of ₦20 million with two sureties. The first surety must be a district head (Hakimi) of a local government area, supported by an official letter of confirmation from the emirate council, while the second must be a Kano-based businessman who owns property and can present valid proof of ownership. Both sureties are required to affix their passport photographs to the bail bond documents.

The court adjourned the case until February 12, 2026, for further hearing.
